The Serras: an Intimate Boutique Hotel in Central Barcelona

When planning a visit to Barcelona you should seriously consider staying at The Serras. Very well located next to the old city, only a few steps from the marina and with high standards of quality, this boutique hotel really stands out from the crowd. Picasso had his first studio in the building!

While checking in you will be offered a glass of Cava (nice touch!) before a tour of this intimate hotel featuring only 28 rooms and a nice rooftop terrace with a pool (not heated unfortunately).

The rooms, lounges and corridors are of a sleek and contemporary design. Each night after a day of sightseeing you will be greeted by a muffin (a different one each night!) and a bottle of water on your nightstand.

The staff’s helpfulness is outstanding and complaint handling is above expectations: a wrong bottle in the minibar (a demonstration bottle not suited for consumption, quite funny actually!) resulted in many apologies and a complimentary bottle of Cava delivered to the room, a not satisfying dry-cleaning case (provided by a third party) resulted in a waive of charges and a compensation, always with genuine smile and will of meeting your needs. This should be the case everywhere, but unfortunately it isn’t.

Finally after all these positive reviews, there are still a few drawbacks (no one is perfect)… When you book your room directly via the hotel’s website they promote “a free bottle of Catalan wine and a tapa”. Well, the free bottle turns out to be a free glass of wine. It’s totally ok, but if you are not going to offer a bottle it would be better just to advertise “a free glass of Catalan wine and a tapa”. The tapa offered (their signature patatas bravas, or french fries with a twist) is really good by the way. In addition to that, the minibar was once refilled with 2 regular Cokes instead of one regular Coke and one Diet Coke. It’s a detail and the situation was corrected right away upon indication, but it shouldn’t happen in a hotel of this category. Cleaning staff also once forgot to refill the vanity kit.

All in all The Serras probably is one of Barcelona’s best hotels and a very satisfying one in all aspects. Consider also booking a table at their Informal restaurant, located inside the hotel.
